Hackett Middle School Facade Investigation and Restoration, Albany, New York
The William S. Hackett Middle School is one of the schools in the City School District of Albany. The facade of the classic, transitional-style 1920s building appeared to be in good condition, although a closer inspection revealed deterioration of elements caused by decades of water exposure and leaking. Klepper, Hahn & Hyatt completed a review of the building exterior, including the roof parapets and balustrades, copper and stone cornices, the building facade and the main entry stair foundations. We detailed our findings in a report and made recommendations for the repair of all of these building elements. A Phase II project, involving structural design and site design, will be completed in 2008.
