Syracuse University Crouse College of Fine Arts Facade Restoration, Syracuse, New York
2004 American Concrete Institute of Central New York — Design & Installation
Silver Award for Excellence in Masonry Restoration
Crouse College of Fine Arts, constructed in 1888, is a signature building on the campus of Syracuse University. Designed by architect Archimedes Russell, it was built with Long Meadow brownstone and crafted with Romanesque details and ornamentation. By the 1990s, the elegant structure displayed many of the ravages of time, including open mortar joints and cracked stones. In 1997, Klepper, Hahn & Hyatt was enlisted to study the exterior masonry, record the conditions, and make recommendations for repair and rehabilitation. Following that study, the firm undertook a three-year project to assist the University in repairing, preserving and restoring the original appearance of this prominent building.
