Oneida Junior/Senior High School Additions, Oneida, New York
2001 National Engineering Award of Excellence (Projects up to $10 Million)
The roof structure of the Oneida Junior/Senior High School gymnasium addition was designed to be the dominant element of this space. Visually, the architect desired a roof structural shape that appeared to be light and floating over the gym’s basketball court while light poured into the space from the long sidewalls. This was achieved through the use of double-bowed trusses which gives the structure the appearance of a wing suspended from the end walls of the gym. The exterior elevation continued the expression of the double-bowed shape.
