Onondaga County Court House, Syracuse, New York
2003 Bronze Award — Excellence in Masonry Design and Installation
American Concrete Institute, Central New York Chapter
The 120,000-square-foot new court house building, part of the City of Syracuse civic complex, was constructed with a variety of masonry materials, including CMU bearing walls, shaft walls, and partitions, and exterior veneer with glass block accents and precast mullion highlights. The five-story building distinctively complements the original, century-old building through its use of unique masonry finishes and applications. Structural design included reinforced concrete footings, piers, walls and slabs, along with structural steel moment frames. Steel floor beams and girders are composite with the concrete floor slabs. The building houses all of the city courts, county courts, district attorney’s office and the Onondaga County grand juries. Project cost was $20 million.
